Mike Hoffmeyer, director of the Crews Center, said, "Students come from a variety of backgrounds and walks of life, providing a unique professional development opportunity through the practice of entrepreneurship."

The program is called ImagineU and is supported by an ecosystem of entrepreneurs, business advocates and community leaders.

Joe Mvula and Natiasha Kent represented LeMoyne-Owen College in this year’s cohort. They worked in startup teams with other local college students from U of M, Christian Brothers University, Rhodes College, Visible Musical College, Memphis College of Art, and Southwest Tennessee Community College to envision a business idea, model and validate it, and pitch the concept to a panel and audience of potential investors.

On Friday, Aug. 17, the teams pitched their business ideas and the winner received a $2,500 cash prize.
